ITANAGAR, Sept 28: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki today admitted that crime against women in the state has been on the rise.
Responding to a question raised in the assembly during question hour by Trinamool Congress member Laeta Umbrey, he quoted statistics of the report prepared by Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW).
He told the house that 190 cases of atrocities against women were reported in the state during 2010, while the numbers in 2011 was 171 and that till August 2012 was 122.
The cases reported in the state were rape, kidnapping, molestation, sexual harassment and domestic violence.

He further said, due to these officers the state exchequer is getting benefits.
Illegal Migration: Regarding illegal migration, Tuki said that the state government would form a committee to study the issue of illegal migration from Bangladesh into the state and prepare a report to be placed in the assembly for discussion. "In 2010, state government set up special task forces in each district to detect and identify illegal migrants.
Detention cells have been established in every district and checking of inner line permits have been intensified to check influx of outsiders," he said in the assembly while speaking on a private member resolution (PMR) moved by NCP member Bamang Felix.

Chief minister Tuki said that DIG (Intelligence) has been appointed as state nodal officer to monitor illegal migrants and their repartition.
"The state is protected under relevant laws like Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation Act," he said.
He said whatever migrants available in the state were being hired by locals as domestic servants.
He appealed the people to be vigilant while appointing such people and inform the police accordingly for future records.

Assembly approves Rights to Slum Dwellers Bill and Tiger Protection Bill

ITANAGAR, Sept 28: The Arunachal Pradesh Property Rights to Slum Dwellers Bill, 2012, moved by Urban Development Minister Rajesh Tacho yesterday, was passed by the assembly today by voice vote despite opposed by NCP MLA Ralom Borang and Trinamool Congress member Laeta Umbrey.
While opposing the bill Borang said there is no slum area in the state. Umbrey supported him saying migrants will outnumber the locals if the bill was passed. "We should be specific as to who would live in the slums and minimum and maximum area to be allotted. They suggested that ample time should be given to members of the assembly before passing of bills.

Consultative meeting on Special Summary revision of electoral rolls
Ziro, Sept 28: A good electoral registration is the first step towards a good and effective electoral process, and no eligible candidate should be restraint from exercising their adult franchise, said Lower Subansiri Deputy Commissioner cum District Election Officer (DEO) Taru Talo.
The BLAs appointed can list out dead and shifted voters through house to house survey and present the list to the designated officers to avoid duplicate votes, the DEO said in a Consultative Committee meeting of political parties on Special Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Rolls today.
He also informed the political representatives to restrain from submitting bulk electoral registrations forms during the hearing process which encourages fake voters.

Sensitization prog on disaster management for HoDs
ROING, Sept 28: A sensitization programme for all the HoDs and their role and responsibilities in disaster management was held at Anchal Samiti Hall here today. The programme was organized by the department of District Disaster Management, Roing.
Attending the programme, Lower Dibang Valley deputy commissioner Garima Gupta said that Lower Dibang Valley being disaster prone district, natural calamities like flood, landslide, storm, fire and earthquakes can occur any time. Since such disasters can occur any time and anywhere, we have to be prepared for such situations to lessen the extent of damage, she said while highlighting the roles and the responsibilities of all line Departments through powerpoint presentation.
She informed that a District Disaster Management Authority has been formed in Lower Dibang Valley for effective management of disasters in the district.

The Idu Mishmi Government Employee Association (IMGEA) on Thursday celebrated the promotion of Tamune Miso, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Namsai to Deputy Commissioner and Rebecca Tayeng Linggi, Circle Officer (CO), Roing to Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC).
A pleasant function was held in Roing where congratulations were extended to the two achievers by the members of IMGEA. The promotion of Miso to the rank of DC attaches great significance to the Mishmi community because he is first from the community to have achieved that feat. RGU family mourns student’s death
ITANAGAR, Sept 28: The Rajiv Gandhi University family have deeply mourned the sad and untimely demise of Tsering Ngoidup, an MA 1st Semester students of Department of Mass Communication on September 26 here.
“He was a brilliant and sincere student and his untimely death is a great loss for the university.”
All the staff and students of the university, in a condolence meeting, observed a minute’s silence as a mark of respect to the late student and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.

ITANAGAR, Sept 28: Department of Travel and Tourism Management (TTM) and Hotel Management and Catering Technology (HMCT) of Rajiv Gandhi Govt, Polytechnic, Itanagar organized an awareness campaign cum interaction programme with the staff and students of Govt. M.E. School, Poma yesterday to mark the World Tourism Day.
The faculties, staff and students of both the departments highlighted the importance of tourism through PowerPoint presentation. Slide shows on various tourism destinations of India and other countries as well as videos show on important tourist destinations of the country were presented. The department also conducted a cleanliness drive within the school campus.
World Rourism Day is celebrated across the globe to promote brotherhood, safe travel, preservation and protection of flora and fauna, culture, etc.
Gomi Basar felicitated

Dr.Basar presented his research paper titled “Study of CRP and Glycated Haemoglobin in adults Type2 Diabetes,” which was adjudged good and interesting as well as informative paper in view of the fact that Diabetes is becoming a worldwide epidemic affecting more than 346 million of Type2Diabetes as of now globally.
Dr. Basar has already received scholarship from Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India this year for his work on Diabetes and Metabolic syndrome and is pursuing his MD in Medical Biochemistry from RIMS, Imphal. He is one among the 50 Postgraduate students selected from Northeast on merit and relevant work on medical research. He is the son of Tumpe and Tago Basar, Rtd. Director of Agriculture.
DC visits flood affected Bordumsa
ITANAGAR, Sept 28: Changlang deputy commissioner Chanchal Yadav conducted a whirlwind tour of Bordumsa and inspected all the flash flood affected areas at Bijoypur I and III villages under Bordumsa on September 26 last.
She interacted with a good number of flood victims and gave a patient hearing to their grievances.
Later in a public meeting, the flood victims of Bijoypur village submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner highlighting their problems to take up them with the state government. They appealed for further relief assistance and measures for preventing flood in future by taking up appropriate flood controlling measures.

World heritage sites face challenges
International Union for Conservation of Nature is warning of the growing threats faced by many existing World Heritage sites and is calling for stronger measures to guarantee their future.
Despite considerable successes over the last four decades, the World Heritage Convention cannot afford to rest on its laurels, according to IUCN, the World Heritage advisory body on nature.
According to Director of IUCN’s World Heritage Programme too many World Heritage sites are left with few resources to ensure their proper management, risking their role as natural flagships for the protection of critical habitats and unique wildlife vital to the future of our planet. He said, many face a barrage of challenges, not least from mining and oil exploration.
The Convention must remain an effective mechanism for conserving places of natural wonder and uphold its high standards.
Nearly 8 per cent of the 217 natural World Heritage Sites are on the World Heritage Danger List, while 25 per cent are affected by serious conservation issues and the status of many other sites is not known. Over 60 per cent of West and Central African sites are on the Danger list, and one in four of these iconic areas are threatened by planned mining, oil and gas projects. This includes Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, home of the world’s last mountain gorillas.
The IUCN was instrumental in creating the World Heritage Convention in 1972 and has a unique advisory role in supporting the Convention in achieving conservation results.

Sir , due to the lack of proper buildings and infrastructure facilities, the students of JNV Doimukh have been facing various problems which severely affect their academic activities. However, Vidyalaya authority has tackled the problems to some extend.
Both state and central Govts have to take responsibility for smooth running of the vidyalaya. Therefore, the union minister is requested to intervene in the matter in the greater interest of the JNV Doimukh and its students.

Menchukha Govt HSS needs Govt attention
Dear Editor,
I would like to draw the attention of the authority, particularly education department towards the problems being faced by the students of Govt Hr. Secondary School, Mechukha.
For last many years, no senior subject teachers, particularly of English, Economics and History for higher classes have been posted in the school and the school is virtually run by SSA teachers. Authority promised several times to post subject teachers, but it remains a lip service and as a result the students are showing poor results in CBSE examinations.
